How It Works

The controller automatically regulates pump speed and fan operation based on coolant temperature, ensuring efficient thermal management.

  • Pump operation adjusts dynamically for optimal cooling
  • Fans activate progressively based on user-defined temperature thresholds
  • After shutdown, the system continues to cool for up to 3 minutes if required

 Variable Speed Controller

(Brushless and Brushed Motors)

High-performance Controller designed to optimise thermal management in automotive, industrial, marine and EV applications. It provides intelligent, precise control of either dual Thermatic® Electric Fans or Electric Water Pumps (EWP®), ensuring maximum, efficiency, system protection and reliable operation in the most demanding environments.

Key Features

Flexible operating modes

  • Four distinct control strategies to suit differing cooling system applications
  • 12 & 24 Volt Applicable

Independent dual outputs

  • Two fully isolated PWM signal channels allow for separate control of any combination of Brushless fan/s and/or Brushless EWP®
  • Multiple Brushless fans or pumps can be wired to a single channel, provided the combined PWM signal current does not exceed .5A.
  • Unique setpoints, and operating modes can be applied to each output independently.

Shutdown control

  • After ignition-off, the Controller will keep fans running for user-defined time or until defined shutdown time is reached to prevent heat-soak.

Manual overrides

  • Dedicated ON/OFF control per channel by passes automatic control if required
  • Configurable polarity accommodates different wiring and switch arrangements

Safety & failsafe options

  • In the event of Sensor fault, outputs default to full speed to protect the system

Advanced Configuration options

  • Temperature difference – defines ramping start relative to base set point
  • Defines the speed at which the fan will start
  • Shutdown time & temperature – controls post-ignition cooldown time & temperature
  • Temperature offset – Adjusts for Sensor calibration
  • Factory Reset – restores all parameters to default settings
  • Adjustable PWM frequency – adjusts PWM output frequency to suit controlled Fan and/or EWP on the Brushless Variable Speed Controller

Rugged, reliable design

  • IP67 waterproof rating ensures durability in harsh conditions

THERMAL SWITCHES

A Thermal Switch is a device which senses the temperature of the coolant and turns on the electric fan when cooling is needed over a wide range of temperatures. Davies Craig offers two types of switches, a mechanical & electronic version.

MECHANICAL THERMAL SWITCH (PART #0400, 0401 & 0404)

The Mechanical Thermal Switch is adjustable from 40° to 100°C (104° to 212°F) suitable for 12v & 24v electrical systems. It is mounted near the radiator and the stainless steel probe fitted inside the radiator hose making contact with the coolant. The mechanical thermal switch is then connected to the  ignition circuit for operation. The thermal switch & relay kit (Part 0404) enables a fan to operate both thermally and also when the air conditioning is running.

DIGITAL GAUGE THERMATIC® FAN / EWP® SWITCH KIT

PART #0500 (12 & 24 Volt)

A bright, attractive, compact high visibility 52mm round gauge with LED digital display for mounting in the driver’s compartment!

Automatically activates single or twin fans or a fan and Electric Water Pump at your set / targeted temperature when extra cooling is required. It can also detect transmission fluid temperature.

It senses air temperature as it passes through the radiator with the sensor placed in the radiator fin section or alternatively the sensor can also be placed directly into the coolant system in combination with a Temperature Sensor Adaptor Kit (Part 0409).

The kit is sold in 12 Volt configuration.

*For 24 Volt application: 2 x 24V Relays required, sold separately (Part #10534)

  • Independent set temperature for Fan 1 and Fan 2
  • Universal 52mm gauge design.
  • Extra-long temperature sensor wires 380 cm
  • Can detect ambient temperature (air) as standard
  • Can detect coolant temperature
    • Use #0465 for OE style 1/4 “NPT port install
    • Use #0409 for radiator hose install

TEMPREATURE SENSOR INLINE ADAPTER KIT (PART #0409)

Now there is no need to squeeze the probe of the Mechanical Thermal Switch or EWP® Controller between the radiator inlet and radiator hose. This simple and economical Adaptor Kit allows easy fitting directly into the radiator hose. Just fit probe into compression fitting, remove about 17mm of radiator hose, fit adaptor between each end of hose, secure hose clamps and the job is done. The kit comes with everything you need for a watertight and effective installation. We even supply rubber sleeves to enable fitment to radiator hose sizes from 32 to 40 mm diameter.

ADAPTER INLINE 38mm (2 x 1/4" NPT) Kit (PART #0409)

LOW COOLANT LEVEL ALARM KIT (PART #1035)

The Low Coolant Level Alarm Kit will monitor the coolant level in engines and will immediately identify low coolant should this situation develop. This cool new device comes with a loud audible alarm and will help prevent an over-heating engine and significant engine failure. The unit simply fits into your engine’s top radiator hose and will alert you to the loss of engine system coolant via an audible alarm. This situation may occur when a radiator hose splits or frays, a radiator springs a leak and the engine’s coolant is either low or lost. The vehicle’s simple temperature gauge will not alert the driver to this event and the Low Level Coolant Alarm adds security to assist monitor your engine’s coolant level. Loss of engine coolant can cause the water pump to lose pressure and will quickly develop into to an overheated engine. Most engine temperature protection systems and gauges will not detect coolant loss as they rely on sensing the coolant temperature. When the coolant is lost, the gauges cannot sense engine temperature and as such expensive engine failure may occur.
